Cereton is a nootropic medicine. A central cholinostimulant containing 40.5% metabolically protected choline. Metabolically protected promotes the release of choline in the brain.

Ensures synthesis of acetylcholine and phosphatidylcholine in neuronal membranes, improves blood flow and enhances metabolic processes in CNS, activates reticular formation. It increases linear velocity of blood flow on the side of traumatic brain injury, promotes normalization of spatiotemporal characteristics of spontaneous bioelectrical activity of the brain, regression of focal neurological symptoms and recovery of consciousness, has a positive effect on the cognitive and behavioral responses of patients with cerebral vascular disease (dyscirculatory encephalopathy and residual effects of stroke).

It has a preventive and corrective effect on pathogenetic factors of involutional psychoorganic syndrome, changes phospholipid composition of neuronal membranes and reduces cholinergic activity.

Stimulates dose-dependent release of acetylcholine under physiological conditions; participating in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine (membrane phospholipid), improves synaptic transmission, neuronal membrane plasticity, receptor function.

It does not affect the reproductive cycle and has no teratogenic, mutagenic effect.

Indications:

• Recovery period of severe traumatic brain injury and ischaemic stroke, recovery period of haemorrhagic stroke with focal hemispheric or brainstem symptoms;
• Psycho-organic syndrome with degenerative and involutionary changes in the brain;
• cognitive disorders (disturbances in thinking, memory, confusion, disorientation, reduced motivation, initiative and concentration), including in dementia and encephalopathy;
• senile pseudomelancholia.

How to take, course of treatment and dosage:

In recovery period of craniocerebral injury, ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke, Cereton is prescribed at 800 mg in the morning and 400 mg during the day for 6 months.

In chronic cerebrovascular insufficiency and dementia syndromes, Cereton is indicated at 400 mg (1 capsule) 3 times daily, preferably after meal, for 3-6 months.
