Sofradex eye drops is a combination product containing two antibiotics (Gramicidin + Framicetin) and a glucocorticosteroid (Dexamethasone) used in ophthalmology and otolaryngology.
The antibiotics complement each other's antimicrobial and bactericidal effect and are active against most gram-negative and gram-positive organisms (staphylococci, streptococci, protozoa, Klebsiella, E. coli, etc). Due to dexamethasone, Sofradex also has antihistamine, anti-edema and anti-inflammatory effects, effectively eliminating itching, burning, lacrimation and pain that accompany bacterial eye lesions.

Sofradex is used in ophthalmology for the treatment of infectious-inflammatory eye diseases and their appendages caused by microorganisms sensitive to the action of the drug:
In otolaryngology, the drug is used for the treatment of acute and chronic otitis externa caused by susceptible microorganisms.
How to take, course of treatment and dosage:
In case of eye diseases: In mild infections 1-2 drops of the drug is placed into the conjunctival sac every 4 hours. In case of severe infection the drug is applied every hour. As the inflammation decreases, the frequency of instillation decreases.
In ear diseases: 2-3 drops 3-4 times/day, a gauze tampon moistened with solution may be placed in the external auditory canal.
Duration of use should not exceed 7 days, except in cases of evident positive disease dynamics (GCS may mask latent infections, and prolonged use of antimicrobial components of the drug contribute to the development of resistant flora).
